Have you ever looked at someone else’s life and felt defeated and discouraged? It seems like they have it all together. Their business is running well, their marriage and family life seem so perfect and they appear to be the perfect picture of health! This is even more prevalent in today’s social media world where everything is on display.

While we don’t know for sure how those people’s lives are, we know that everyone tends to put their best face forward. What we do know however is the current state of our affairs, and what I am here to tell you is that you have the power to choose and to change your circumstances with minimal effort.

This is your year to embrace Change. Change in all areas of your life. Change in your attitude, your thoughts, your spiritual life, your relationships, your health and any other area of your life that need improving.

So how do you begin? You begin with the DECISION to change. Let’s say you want to change your health, then TODAY is the day that you would decide to cut back on your sodium, sugar and fats and to make better food choices and get more exercise. You don’t have to wait until tomorrow. If you are reading this before your next meal, you can make the conscious effort to skip the fast foods, hold the fries and do not order the Sweet Tea:)

Changing the quality of your relationships also begins with your decision. You can decide to begin a date night with your spouse each month, or plan an individual “date” with each of your children where you take them to breakfast and find out how they are really doing. Improving the quality of your relationship with friends and other family members will take effort too. You may have to plan more social events at your home and invite people over.

Improving your spiritual life will involve you reading your bible more, praying more and attending church and becoming involved. It will not happen just by you thinking about it. I try to check my spiritual “temperature” often to see if I am getting cold. When I sense that I am, I do a reset and get back in the word. Today I begin my 21 day Daniel Fast. This is a very effective way for hitting the reset button with God and getting your spiritual house in order. By denying yourself food and other treats, you are better able to give God your focus.

Finally, and perhaps most important is changing your thought life. Decide this year to really guard your thought life. Every point I made in this email begins with you having the right thoughts so you can make the right decisions. Remember that your dominant thought will control your behavior. If you are constantly worried, jealous, stressed out, discouraged etc., the results will show up in your life as lack of progress, things not working right, and a general feeling of overwhelm. This year, choose to live each day with courage, focus and passion. Choose better relationships and better health. This year, choose YOU!
