How To Get More Clients
One of the most effective ways to get new clients is to ask them for their business. End of blog.
It is really that simple. Your potential clients need to hear from you. They need to know that you want their business. How will they know if you do not tell them?
This leads to the next question: Who are your potential clients? If you are fairly new in business, you may have at least one customer. Based on the behavior and characteristics of that one customer, you will be able to develop what marketers call, an Ideal Customer Avatar. This is a composite of what your ideal customer looks like. Why is this important? So you are able to find them and market your business to them.
Customers are all around you, and they are mostly online on one medium or the other. If you know who they are, then you will have a better idea of where they hang out, what they like to do, what problems they have, and decide how your product or service can add value and enhance their lives.
There are several ways to reach your potential clients. I will touch on a few of them briefly below.
Establish and update your own online brand.
You are the Chief Marketing Officer of your business. Take a fresh look at your website and see if it needs updating. Check out your competitor’s websites and find the one you like most. Examine what elements attracted you most. Was it the design, ease of use or the information. Take a look at your own site and make adjustments as needed.
Next, look at your social media presence. Are your prospects more likely to have a Facebook or LinkedIn account or are they hanging out on Twitter and Instagram? Wherever they are, is where you should be. It is tough to maintain multiple social media sites so you want to spend the most time on the ones that have a greater promise of returns in the form of potential new clients.
Network in Person More
Because of the popularity of social media, many people have gotten away from in-person networking. Big Mistake. This is still effective and even more effective in closing the deal. Nothing beats face to face contact in my book. My last two networking events secured me two great leads that I would not have been able to accomplish via social media alone. Find out what groups and associations your ideal customers belong to and join them. A good place to start is your local Chamber of Commerce. You can meet a diverse group of people there.
Make That Phone Call or Send That Email
Last, but another really effective method, is to make contact with 10-20 prospective clients via email or phone call each day. This is how great salesmen in the past did it, and it still works today. If only one person responds in the affirmative, that is one new client! All you have to do is hit repeat each day and the numbers will begin to add up.
Your homework is to try one, two or all of these methods and see which one works best for you.
